Craig Hope reports from Whitley Park ...
NEWCASTLE United Reserves made it back-to-back home victories thanks to an early double strike against Rotherham United at Whitley Park.
The Magpies, who had beaten Huddersfield Town 5-1 a week previous, included first-team squad members Tamas Kadar and Ryan Donaldson in their starting side.
And it took just three minutes to find a breakthrough; Shane Ferguson's corner acrobatically turned home from close range by Faroe Islands midfielder Joan Edmundsson.
Skipper Donaldson shaved the crossbar just moments later as United's enterprising start continued.
And it was an opening which yielded a second on 10 minutes; Northern Ireland international Ferguson drilling home first time from 20 yards having been slipped clear by Wesley Ngo Baheng.
Rotherham, though, refused to throw in the towel and an anticipated deluge of home goals failed to materialise.
Millers striker Paul Warne smashed wide from 12 yards on 32 minutes and Jak Alnwick was forced into a reflex save to keep out a Jacob Webster header before the break.
Slovenian starlet Haris Vuckic bagged a brace against Huddersfield last week and was again impressive; his measured curler on the stroke of half-time brushing the base of the post.
Ferguson's deliveries continued to prove troublesome for the visitors and it was from his centre that Wesley Ngo Baheng lifted a delicate lob onto the crossbar on 67 minutes.
Alan Thompson's men saw out the remainder of the match with few problems, despite a late floodlight failure, and will now wrap up their league campaign when Grimsby Town visit Tyneside on Thursday.

GOAL UPDATES (click refresh for latest)
10min - NEWCASTLE GOAL (2-0): The Millers surrender possession midway inside their own half allowing Wesley Ngo Baheng to feed a low through ball to the supporting Shane Ferguson. The Northern Ireland international is some 20 yards from goal but has the confidence to take on a first-time effort and drills low into the bottom corner leaving Jamie Annerson no chance.
3min - NEWCASTLE GOAL (1-0): United centre-back Matthew Grieve makes a nuisance of himself at the near post from Shane Ferguson's corner and, when the ball drops kindly for Joan Edmundsson, the Faroe Islands midfielder turns a smart scissor-kick into the bottom corner from just four yards out.
We're off here at Whitley Park
